The leaders and workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) continued with the protest all around Lahore on the second day against the decision of the disqualification of Sharif brothers. The PML-N workers burnt tyres on the main roads of the city, to show their resentment against the Supreme Court' ruling and the government, in particular against President Asif Ali Zardari and Punjab Governor Salman Taseer.
Combination of protests and strike by traders and transporters, there was a thin attendance in the schools, especially in the private schools and offices. Some schools advised parents not to send their children, fearing a possibility of riots. However, fortunately, no such incident took place during the demonstrations, although a false bomb alarm on The Mall did create anxiety among the protestors, but it was only rumours.
The main protest was staged in front of the Punjab Assembly where members of the Provincial Assembly and former provincial ministers came with their supporters in thousand throughout the day. The supporters of the PML-N were raising slogans against the President Asif Ali Zardari. They also burnt the effigies of the President.
Lawyers in the form of rally also joined the protest in front of the Assembly to show solidarity with the PML-N against the decision of disqualification of Sharif Brothers.
Former provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, while talking to the reporters in front of the Punjab Assembly, said the Supreme Court's ruling was against the wishes of the people. He also said their struggle would continue till the restoration of the judiciary on the position of November 2, 2007. They would fully participate in the lawyers long-march and sit-in, he added.
Later, a big public meeting was held at Faisal Chowk, which was attended by thousands of workers of the PML-N, came out from all around the city. The meeting was attended by PML-N central leaders Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and Khawja Saad Rafique.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi said the people of Pakistan voted for change on February 18 and their struggle would continue till the establishment of the rule of law. Hamza Shahbaz said the day was not far when there would be the government of PML-N in the country. After that the workers in the form of rally, consisting of motorcycles, cars and pedestrians, marched towards the Governor House and shouted anti Zardari and Taseer slogans.
