Pakistan was committed to playing its role in bringing the culprits of Mumbai attacks to justice and was making every effort to address the issues of extremism and militancy, Pakistan's Acting High Commissioner in Canada, Naela Chohan told a news channel.
"Pakistan took every step possible against the organisations allegedly involved in the Mumbai attacks. We immediately sealed their offices, arrested their leaders froze the organisation's accounts, and put the suspects on Exit Control List (ECL)," she said in an interview in Ottawa. The Acting High Commissioner said Pakistan was one of the first to condemn the Mumbai terrorist attacks and had offered full co-operation to the Government of India. She said Pakistan and India need to cooperate in fighting the common threat of terrorism and grow out of the blame game.
To a question, she said terrorists have no support in Pakistan. The government and people of Pakistan are doing their best but the international community needs to play its role in supporting Pakistan in this fight. Emphatically rejecting the allegations that the Mumbai attacks were in any way supported by the Pakistani official agencies, Naela Chohan said Pakistan's government and state institutions remain fully committed to the fight against terrorism.
She said Pakistan was pursuing co-operative partnership with regional countries for eradicating this menace and as a responsible state was taking requisite steps to fight terrorism and would not allow its soil to be used for such acts at home and abroad, she added.
She described Pakistan as a victim of terrorism. "We have suffered more terror attacks than India and said Pakistan has lost its great leader Benazir Bhutto in this war." She said terrorism has no borders and terrorists have no religion. A focussed effort by the international community was required to fight this menace.
