The agriculture policies of Pakistan are being directed for creating environment for small farmers by provision of agriculture input at the rationale prices to increase their productivity and profitability. This was stated by Pakistan's High Commissioner to Malaysia, Lieutenant General Tahir Mahmud Qazi (Retd) on Thursday.
Addressing plenary session of D-8 Ministers meeting in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, which was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak. The High Commissioner said Pakistan has mobilised its own resources as well as have collaborated with international development partners and agencies to mitigate the impact of food crisis on poor and vulnerable segment of the society.
He said that D-8 Group of developing nation's initiatives to reach the poor and vulnerable and increasing food production that will, with the policies persuaded by the government of Pakistan. General Tahir (Retd) said that Pakistan is looking for multilateral and unilateral development partners for technical and financial support for agriculture development programme.
Later, a representative from the private sector, briefed the D-8 Ministers on challenges faced by member countries to ensure food security, and recommended various measures to increase fertiliser and animal feeds and establishment of seed banks at the D-8 forum.
The opening session was attended by over 110 delegates from official and private sector of the members countries; Turkey, Nigeria, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran and host Malaysia. Whereas, Pakistan side was represented by High Commissioner for Pakistan, Lt. General Tahir Mahmud Qazi (Retd), Commercial counsellor Mr Majid Qureshi and Press Attache Qamar Bashir.
