Former Central Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Bilal Mulla has deplored the misuse of Export Development Fund (EDF) as reported in a section of press.
In a statement issued here he said that being PRGMEA Central Chairman and member of Export Development Fund, Govt of Pakistan he attended meetings of Export Development Fund and always stressed on the chairman of the fund viz. Minister of Commerce, Govt. of Pakistan to publish accounts of Export Development Fund since 1991 so that the exporters who contribute towards above fund should know the utilisation of their contribution, but all his efforts are gone in vain.
He further said that in the meetings he always demanded the amount of Export Development Fund should be allocated only to those sectors, which subscribe the funds ie if garment sector subscribe X amount to the fund the same amount should be utilised for garments sector only, but contrary to this the people representing other side particularly the Chairman EPB / TDAP always opposed it mainly due to the fact that the amount of funds are routed through them.-PR
