New Punjab Chief Secretary, Najeibullah Malik, has ensured the provincial secretaries that past practices, which hurt the sentiments of staff, particularly, lower cadre would not be repeated any further. He expressed his views, while addressing provincial secretaries after assuming the charge of Chief Secretary Punjab here on Thursday, disclosed sources.
He also told them that he would constitute new administration team, which would be treated with respect and honour. Expressing his grave concerns over the changes took place in the Punjab Civil Secretariat in the last 10 months, in which many offices have been shifted in order to make the Secretariat more 'spacious and beautified', he said this would no longer be repeated in future, instead efforts would be made to bring the offices back that have been scattered during its relocation.
According to an official, the Chief Secretary also said in the meeting that government officials should perform their duties on merit without any fear, as the government wants to maintain a pleasant atmosphere in government offices. Meanwhile, there was mix feeling among the officials over the appointment of the new Chief Secretary. Both the Public Service Commission (PSC) officials and lower cadre staff were jubilant over the news.
