Weekly inflation measured through SPI surged by 24.49 per cent on February 26 over the same period of last year owing to increase in the price of vegetables, fruits and other essential commodities, revealed the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) on Friday.
Official figures on inflation showed that Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) showed an increase of Rs 10 in the per kg prices of onion during the week. The price of fruits, chicken, sugar and chillies also increased during the week.
With this increase in the prices, the weekly surge was 0.60 percentage points. Also dearness for the low income families earning Rs 3000 per month mounted to 23.56 percent during the week followed by 24.33 per cent for families bracketed in Rs 3001 to Rs 5000 income group. The hike in prices of essential commodities for families with monthly income of Rs 5001 to Rs 12000 was recorded 25.52 and 24.31 per cent for over Rs 12, 000 income group.
The SPI bulletin noted an increase in the prices of 11 essential commodities, decline in 13 while prices of 29 items remained stable. According to FBS the per kg onion prices increased to Rs 41.13 from Rs 32.92, bananas dozen to Rs 36.71 from Rs 35.65, chicken (farm) kg to Rs 122.70 from Rs 120.04, beef kg to Rs 145.55 from Rs 144.30, mutton kg to Rs 264.35 from Rs 262.88, egg hen (farm) dozen to Rs 59.03 from Rs 58.74, sugar kg to Rs 41.69 from Rs 41.50, red chillies kg to Rs 133.19 from Rs 132.61, rice irri-6 kg to Rs 36.54 from Rs 36.43, firewood 40 kg to Rs 270.64 from Rs 270.49, wheat flour av qlt kg to Rs 24.55 from Rs 24.54.
The prices per kg gram pulse washed declined during the week to Rs 56.56 from Rs 58.32, LPG (11 kg cylinder) each to Rs 801.76 from Rs 824.00, garlic kg to Rs 41.14 from Rs 41.56, masoor pulse washed kg to Rs 124.55 from Rs 125.77, wheat av qlt kg to Rs 24.38 from Rs 24.55, moong pulse washed kg to Rs 47.47 from Rs 47.79, vegetable ghee loose kg to Rs 98.52 from Rs 99.14, potatoes kg to Rs 12.85 from Rs 12.93, washing soap nylon cake to Rs 12.65 from Rs 12.71, tomatoes kg to Rs 32.06 from Rs 32.18, mustard oil kg to Rs 140.82 from Rs 141.12, mash pulse washed kg to Rs 76.00 from Rs 76.08, gur kg to Rs 45.78 from Rs 45.79.
