Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza, criticising PML-N leadership has said that Nawaz Sharif always has destroyed the democracy and once again he is trying to demolish the democratic government of PPP, which has been established after a long struggle and several sacrifices.
She was speaking at the ceremony of National Bank of Pakistan's (NBP) Award for Excellence in Literature held on Saturday at a local hotel. She said that PPP has also a mandate in Punjab to setup the government with 107 seats against the 131 seats of PML-N, while remaining provincial assembly seats are held by PML-Q and independent candidates.
"We have restored some 56 judges out of 60 sacked, and Nawaz Sharif is protesting and arranging demonstrations only for the restoration of four judges, which is unethical, and an attempt to destroyed the democratic government" she said.
Shehla said that this party was trying to fan ethnicity and politics of regionalism, which are a dangerous effort. On the contrary, our leader, co-chairman PPP and President Asif Ali Zardari was promoting a politics of reconciliation in the country, she added. She said PPP has always promoted regional culture, as colour of regions are fast and have profound impact and therefore, it is the national party.
She urged the poets and writers to use their pen to promote the culture of truth, harmony and tolerance and not hatred and ethnicity. She lauded NBP for giving cash awards to poets, writers and critics, specially in regional languages and said this will encourage regional literature in the country. Advisor to Sindh Governor on Literature Yousuf Jamal talked about the selection criteria for the awards and said it was done through a transparent manner.
NBP president Syed Ali Raza said that his bank was spending a sufficient amount on the promotion of sports and literature in the country. He said NBP was the largest taxpayer in the country and also promotes social and cultural activities. We have regularised 2000 contract employees at a time when other organisations are retrenching people.
"National bank is also encouraging employment of women in the banking sector and have fixed 25 percent employment for women, while at present over 100 branch mangers are female", he informed. Meanwhile, under the NBP award for excellence in lecturer, four awards were presented on the literary work in national language Urdu and four for literary work in regional languages.
