Formation of government in Punjab is the right of the majority party and Pakistan Peoples Party would bring no impediments in this process, said Sherry Rehman, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting here on Saturday.
"The party who gets majority would have the right to form government in Punjab and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will not let anyone to indulge in horse-trading," the Minister said while talking to reporters outside the Parliament House. PPP believes in democracy and would never impede this process, the Minister said, adding the Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly has criticised the government and the PPP set a positive trend by listening to him without any prompt reaction.
She stated that the government tries to avoid the politics of confrontation rather promotes the politic of reconciliation and it was decided in the meeting that the opposition would be given enough time to raise their issue. "Though many of his comments were nothing but just point scoring but we listened to him and would respond him in coming days," she said.
PPP is striving to establish democracy in its true form under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, she added. She regretted the court verdict putting bar on Sharif brothers for disqualifying from public office but also urged the political activists not to disrupt country's peace.
Sherry Rehman said the government is striving for durable peace in the country; situation in Swat has come to normalcy that is solely the outcome of peaceful dialogue, so it is our obligation to focus our efforts for stability of the country. To a question, she said Article 234 of the Constitution allows the imposition of governor's rule in case of disqualification of chief minister or when the Office is vacant due to any other reason, but she assured that the governor-rule has not been imposed forever.
