The architect of Pakistan's successful international bond market standing, Special Secretary Finance, Dr Ashfaque Hassan Khan has joined the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) as Dean and Professor at the School of Business Administration from March 1, 2009.
Known as good negotiator with the International Financial Institutions as well as foreign investors, he has been the key figure in the economic team of the country during the last 10 years, which successfully floated Sovereign Bonds worth $2.6 billion during 2004-2007, which were actually oversubscribed many times.
However, during the first year of the Pakistan Peoples Party led coalition government, he has been sidelined and no important task was handed over to him by the regime. At present, he has been serving as the Special Secretary Finance (SSF) and due to the attitude of the government, he himself opted to serve Nust and leave the Ministry.
During his service, the Investors Relation Desk operated by him helped Pakistan reach continuously to the foreign investors and keep them updated on economic developments to keep their interest alive in Pakistan's economy.
Khan has also been key figure in drafting of Fiscal Responsibility and Debt Limitation Act, 2005; report on losses faced by Pakistan due to the War on Terror, author of (Economic Face of Pakistan) Pakistan Economic Survey, Debt Policy and Fiscal Policy statements.
