Lahore High Court (LHC) has disposed of a petition of Hafiz Saeed, Chief Jamat-ul-Dawa (JuD), with directions to home secretary Punjab to decide the representation of petitioner challenging the detention of her husband within one week. Petitioner Memoona Saeed submitted that the government detained her husband only to please US and India without giving any valid reason.
She said that on December 12, 2008 DCO Lahore issued detention orders for Hafiz's detention with a note that the reasons will be mentioned later. But later on January 10, 2009 home department Punjab again issued two-month detention orders without describing any justification.
Petitioner pleaded that Jamat-ul-Dawa was purely a social welfare organisation and had been provided its rehabilitation services to earthquake victims in Kashmir and NWFP. The court disagreed with the argument and directed the home department to decide on the representation within one week.
