Chief Election Commissioner, Justice (Retd) Qazi Muhammad Farooq Thursday published the names of returned candidates in Senate elections from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Northern Western Frontier Province (NWFP).
Names of these candidates have been published for winning election against two seats reserved for women, two seats reserved for technocrats/ulema from NWFP and four seats of FATA in place of the members, whose term will expire on March 11, 2009, under clause (3) of Article 59 of the Constitution.
Those whose names have been published include Mrs Farah Aqil, Mrs Farhat Abbas against seats reserved for women, Afrasiab Khattak and Adnan Khan against seats reserved for ulema/technocrats.
However, the Commission clarified that notification, to the extent of Adnan Khan will be subject to the final decision in Writ Petition No 362/2009 (Adnan Khan Vs Election Commission and another) of the Peshawar High Court, Peshawar.
Meanwhile, the Chief Election Commissioner also published the names of four returned candidates; Engr. Malik Rashid Ahmed Khan, Haji Khan, Abbas Khan and Muhammad Idrees Khan Safi against the general seats for FATA.
