A worshiper was killed and 19 sustained injuries due to hand grenade attack on Ameer Hamza Khan mosque near Eidgah in D I Khan district on Thursday evening, DCO Mohsin Shah said. He told APP by phone that unknown miscreants hurled a hand grenade inside a mosque Ameer Hamza Khan where people were offering "Magrib" prayer.
The hand grenade landed between the worshipers and went off with a big bang, injuring 20, he informed. He said that later one injured identified as Mannan Khan succumbed to his wounds in hospital. He said the condition of four people was stated to be critical.
The wounded identified are Waseem, Fazal, Aslam Yar, Farooq, Umair, Najam, Muhammad Nawaz, Ameerullah Khan, Shabbeer Ahmed and Abid. They were rushed to district headquarters hospital for treatment.
Emergency has been imposed in DI Khan hospitals and doctors on leave have been called in for duty. The cantonment police rushed to the site and cordoned off the area. The DCO said that security has been beefed up and police have been deployed on the entry and exit points of the city to arrest the perpetrators.
