Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah assured business community that he will soon convene a joint meeting with Federal secretary for water and power, representatives of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and business community to discuss power crises in the city and sort out a solution.
He was talking to two different delegations on Thursday, viz Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the chief minister said that the government is well aware of business community problems and making efforts to resolve the same in shortest possible time.
The chief minister said that beside holding meeting with KESC he will discuss power issue with Federal Minister for water and Power He said that on his directive, the government has increased gas supply to KESC, which has resulted in addition of 200 MW electricity generation.
On complaints of business community about encroachment on industrial plots allotted by SITE, the chief minister directed Sindh Board of Revenue, SITE, CCOP Karachi, Registrar, Co-operative Housing Society and Advisor for Textile Ministry, Dr Mirza Ikhtair Baig to hold a meeting and get the plots vacated to boost industrialisation in the province.
He said that Sindh Government is preparing Anti Encroachment Force Act. The act has been tabled in Sindh Assembly, and after approval by the house, it will be implemented. Under the act government can apprehend encroachers and send them to jail for five years.
Referring to demand of establishing an anti land-grabbing cell at Chief Minister house, he said that government will strengthen the role of scrutiny committee and made it active.
Expressing concern over non-utilisation of land, allotted since long for establishing windmills, the chief minister said that the government is allowing another six months period, and after which the land will be cancelled. He assured to the business community that the government would provide all possible facilities for boosting industrialisation in Sindh.
The chief Minister said that the government will also encourage public private partnership. Former President of KCCI, Siraj Kasam Teli suggested that an anti-land grabbing cell will be established at chief minister house to deal with incidents of land grabbing.
President, KCCI Anjum Nisar drew the attention of Chief Minister towards law and order condition and said that efforts should be made to improve law and order, to keep industrial units operative.
Senior Vice President KCCI, Jawed Bilwani demanded relief package for industries in Sindh on same bases as given by Punjab Government. Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for investment Zubair Motiwala said that he is well aware of business community problems and suggested a number of measures. Implementation of these suggestion will bring a positive change, he added. Delegation of FPCCI lead by its President Sultan Ahmed Chawla criticised strike call given by some corners and said that in present critical economic conditions strike will further detorate economic activities.
