The Lahore High Court on Thursday adjourned proceedings in a petition seeking directions for the Speaker Punjab Assembly to refer a reference to election commission for the disqualification of Saba Sadiq for defecting from her party when speakers counsel concluded his arguments. Counsel for Saba Sadiq, would start his arguments on Friday (today).
Speakers counsel Shahid Jamil in his arguments stressed on a point that the petitioner was not the competent authority to file the reference against MPA Saba Sadiq The leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din, also PML-Q secretary general, filed petitions through counsel Fawad Chaudhry.
Earlier Justice Umar Ata Bandial had disposed of the same petition while directing the petitioner to file reference again before the speaker after removing the objection for which the same was not forwarded to election commission. Later the petitioner filed a new petition pleading that in the light of courts earlier order the reference against MPA Saba Sadiq was filed before the Speaker but the same was not forwarded to election commission.
