Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Thursday unveiled a Grand National Reconciliation strategy to resolve the differences between all the political parties. Talking to journalists here at his residence, he called upon Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to convene an All Parties Conference (APC) in and outside the parliament so that resolution to all issues could be ensured once and for all.
He said that all the party leaders and elders should sit together on a table to evolve a consensus over the conflicts which are threatening the political harmony and democratic process. Shujaat said that this is not right time for carrying on personal grudges and egos. Rather, prudent steps should be taken to avoid further destabilisation.
Those leaders and parties who boycotted the electoral process should also be taken on board, he added. He offered his partys co-operation in this regard, saying, "we would be happy to cooperate if PML could bridge the differences between PPP and PML-N."
When asked whether any of the parties (PPP or PML-N) had sought his favour in this regard, Shujaat said this was solely his own idea and nobody had sought favour from him. "I dont know who is responsible for the political crisis the country is facing today. Some people make mistakes but the entire nation has to face the consequences," he added.
Calling upon the political elite to resolve all the issues amicably, Chaudhry Shujaat said the rulers should use "collective wisdom" to resolve all outstanding issues. He advised youth, adult and political activists to observe calm and restraint and not indulge in protests and agitation which could destabilise the entire system. "No agitation or protest could resolve the issues being faced by the country today. Everyone should, rather, take care of the state which is already facing numerous challenges," he added.
