A PML-N MPA Laila Muqaddas from Gujranwala, elected on womens reserved seat, told a press conference on Thursday that a forward bloc of 27 members from within PML-N has decided to support PPP in Punjab. Her father, who is also district president of the PML-N, also followed in the footstep of her daughter and announced her joining PPP.
The PPP leader Qasim Zia, however, disagreed with the impression that the PPP was involved in horse-trading and said Laila has decided to support the PPP without any pressure. The PPP circles pinpointed that the PML-N dissidents would continue to say bye to their party until the total number reaches to 45.
Political uncertainty intensified has as the three major political parties kept on making tall claims regarding their respective positions. Sources in Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said that the party was determined to get the support of Pakistan Muslim League-Q at the end of the day for forming its government in the most important and populous province of the country. According to them, the PPP leadership wanted a formal announcement from the PML-Q before the lawyers long march. However, there are a few PPP leaders who fear that there might be delay in the deal with PML-Q.
Meanwhile, the PML-N Punjab President and former Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif claimed that the PML-Q has decided to support PML-N unconditionally. It was followed by a rebuttal from the PML-Qs Moonis Elahi who expressed his ignorance from any such development.
Shahbaz Sharif accusation that PPP was involved in horse trading and Iqbal Z. Ahmed, Senator Waqar Ahmed and Mohsin Baig were spending money on behalf of the PPP, generated heated debate in political circles.
According to the political circles, defeat of Iqbal Zafar Jhaggra in Senate elections from NWFP has sealed the fate of any reconciliation between the PML-N and the PPP, which was looking imminent during the presence of Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Wednesday. The PMLQ sources, however, pointed out that the political situation was quite uncertain yet and any unexpected development can take place anytime.
