ECP reserves Imran's contempt of court case judgment
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday reserved judgement in contempt case against Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf Chairman Imran Khan.
Counsel of Imran Khan, Senator Babar Awan completed his arguments saying that the ECP had no authority to hear contempt of the court proceedings as relevant law of 1976 had already been repealed.
The Constitution only authorized the Supreme Court and High Court in such cases. For proceeding against contempt of the court the existence of contempt of court law was must, he added.
The commission will announce the verdict on August 10.
The counsel of Akbar S Babar pleaded to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Imran Khan.
Talking to media outside the Election Commission, founding member of PTI Akbar S Babar said Imran Khan had no respect for the institutions.
Meanwhile, the ECP had also adjourned the hearing of contempt of court against MNA Daniyal Aziz until August 10. Daniyal Aziz did not attend the proceedings.
