A four-member team from Britains Scotland Yard arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday to help probe last months mutiny by paramilitary border guards, in which at least 57 army officers were killed, officials said. The team will assist the authorities in investigating the mutiny by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) soldiers, in which dozens of civilians including members of the dead officers families were also killed.
The BDR, responsible mainly for guarding the countrys borders, is traditionally commanded by officers drawn from the army. A two-member US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team arrived in Dhaka on Sunday, and is already helping local detectives probe the incident, which shook the stability of the two-month old government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and threatened further unrest among security forces.
