The provincial legislature of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Thursday passed a unanimous resolution demanding abolition of ban on cutting of forests and ask the forests scientific management to protect them from further destruction. The joint resolution signed by the Provincial Minister, Syed Ahmad Hussein Shah, Taj Mohammad Tarand, Malik Badshah Saleh, Mohammad Anwar Khan and Jaffar Shah and was moved by them one-by-one except of the Provincial Minister.
The movers of the resolution were of the view that the lifting of ban on the cutting of forests will not only benefit the poor owners, but will also earn handsome amount to the government in head of revenue. The Provincial Minister for Forests and Environment also supported the resolution saying that the Provincial Government also is in favour of the resolution. When the chair put the resolution to vote, the whole house adopted it unanimously.
The provincial assembly also unanimously passed a resolution of the PPP woman MPA from Swat, Noor Sahar, who through her resolution recommended the establishment of a separate television channel for the province to work for official promotion and development of Pashto language.
Supporting the resolution, the Provincial Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein said that the Provincial Government had completed official procedure of the establishment of a separate television channel of the province by the name of Abaseen TV and requested the Federal Government to release funds for the project.
The proposed public sector television channel he said will work under the auspices of the NWFP Government and will not only work for the promotion of Pashto, but also for other local languages of the province. Through a unanimously passed resolution of the opposition leader, Akram Khan Durrani, which was presented by Mufti Kifayatullah, recommended the release of funds for the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) to save 80,000 employees of the defunct project.
The resolution of Engineer Javed Iqbal Tarakai called for the formation of committees for judicious distribution of amount collected from the tobacco producing districts, which was adopted unanimously. Resolutions of Mohammad Zamin Khan and Malik Mohammad Qasim for the provision of motorcycles for the postmen of big post offices in Kambar, Maidan, Khaal, Timergara and Chakdara for speedy distribution of posts and better utilisation of the huge reserves of uranium were also adopted unanimously.
An identical resolution of Adnan Khan Wazir, Dr Haider Ali, Shamsher Ali Khan, Waqar Ahmad Khan and Jaffar Shah for issuance of official blue passports to the members of the provincial assembly was also adopted by all.
The legislature also unanimously adopted three different resolutions tabled by Shah Hussein Alai, Dr Iqbal Din Fana and Taj Mohammad Tarand. The resolution of Shah Hussein Alai was for the renaming of the Government College Kalabat Township and Kalabat Township Hospital after the name of late MPA Akhtar Nawaz Khan.
Fana moved a resolution for the erection of at least three speed breakers on National Highway at Lachi, district Kohat while the resolution of Taj Mohammad Tarand was for the payment of the compensation of Rs 1, 75,000 to those, whose houses have been destroyed in the earthquake of October 2005. The resolutions of Dr Zakirullah Khan, Shagufta Malik were declared lapsed, as they were absent from the house.
Further, the resolution of Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha for 20 percent increase in the Attractive Area Allowance for the employees of federal and provincial government was deferred, as the member was on leave.
Ghulam Mohammads resolution for declaration of PF-90 Chitral as calamity hit area was withdrawn, while the resolution of Malik Badshah Saleh for granting the status of Sub-Division to Urtha Sindh of Dir Kohistan was put pending. Uzma Khan moved a resolution for erecting a nine-inch boundary wall around the Gulshan Rehman Colony of the government employees, which was passed with the support of the majority.
