Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, central vice president of PML-N on Thursday said that the long march would change the nations destiny, urging the people to prepare for sacrifices to bring about a political revolution in the country.
Addressing the district bar before leading a lawyers rally, Hashmi asked the people to join the lawyers long march to achieve the aim for which the country was liberated, urging them to defy the governments restrictions and reach the sit-in venue in Islamabad. Javed Hashmi said that Asif Zardari was mimicking Pervez Musharraf.
He said it was a defining moment in the countrys history as Pakistan had been brought at crossroads and God had given the people an opportunity to save it. The PML-N leader said they were not going to stage the sit-in to get slots in the government, but they only wanted to change this redundant and outdated system.
"It is an outdated system, which has become a security threat to the country," he added. Hashmi also referred to the sedition charges levelled by the government against him and said those guilty of sedition were charging his remarks as seditious. About the imposition of Section 144 in the Punjab by the government to stop the protesting lawyers and political workers, he said lawyers in Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi had already defied it as they were standing here among them.
He asked the authorities if they could stop this flood of the people with the imposition of Section 144. Javed Hashmi held President Asif Ali Zardari responsible for reintroducing the politics of horse-trading in the country. But the PML-N leaders in the NWFP assembly refused to sell their votes in the Senate elections.
The fate of the country would be changed on March 16, he said, adding the country was facing grave issues but the President was busy in breaking and making governments. He said he had joined hands with Zardari to pull the country out of the existing situation. But when he (Zardari) broke the promises and ridiculed agreements, he had to part ways with the President, the PML-N SVP said.
Javed Hashmi said Zardari had upheld each and every policy of the Musharraf government and the country was facing the same old problems. He said the long march was not a political movement and Ali Ahmed Kurd and Aitzaz Ahsan were leading the movement not to become presidents or prime ministers, but we all are doing it for the supremacy of the Constitution and independence of the judiciary.
"The lawyers movement will succeed because they are fighting for the supremacy of the Constitution and have no personal motives," he said. He said the country was facing unrest because of the wrong and flawed policies of the previous and present governments.
Hashmi said the people were facing problems because they had not learnt to rise up against the system, adding that the PML-N could not ignore the nations sacrifices. He said the imposition of Section 144 could not deter the people from fulfilling their dream of an independent judiciary and the supremacy of parliament.
He said Allah had given another opportunity to the people of Pakistan to change their fate and expressed the hope that they would not spoil this opportunity and that the conspirators could only be defeated by making the long march a success.
"Allah has put the decision to change the fate of Pakistan in your hands. It is possible in seven days, even three days. These conspirators will run away with their tails between their legs," Hashmi said. He also appealed to the people of the NWFP, Sindh, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Northern Areas and Fata to join the lawyers, saying "We will meet on March 16 and change the destiny of the nation."
Earlier, Bar President Mumtaz Noor Tangra, General Secretary Mian Adil Mushtaq, and senior lawyers also addressed the gathering and criticised Maulana Fazlur Rahman for his remarks against Nawaz Sharif. "It seems that the soul of Musharraf has entered Maulana Fazlur Rehman," they said.
