US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton telephoned President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday and discussed the fragile political situation in Pakistan. According to sources, the US Secretary of State expressed concern over the deteriorating political situation and urged the President to address the issues while taking all the political forces on board.
It was also learnt that Hillary conveyed to him the US support to democracy, strengthening of institutions and fight against terrorism. She also discussed with the President the regional and bilateral issues and the forthcoming "Friends of Democratic Pakistan" meeting to be held in Tokyo next month.
She said the US will support Pakistan to recover its economic strength and stability, adding the United States will support Pakistan in every possible manner to tide over its difficulties.
It was also learnt that Zardari apprised the US top diplomat that the government is making utmost efforts to settle the issue democratically. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Saturday also telephoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Mian Nawaz Sharif and exchanged views over the current political turmoil in Pakistan.
Sources close to the PML-N leadership told Business Recorder that the discussion between the two leaders lasted for about five minutes. During the discussion, Hillary urged Nawaz to find peaceful solution to disputes and also play his active role in stabilising democracy in Pakistan, sources claimed.
Nawaz, according to sources, told Hillary that his party was not in favour of any kind of confrontation and wanted to resolve all disputes in a peaceful manner. He said that PML-N is waging just struggle along with lawyers, civil society and political parties for a greater cause.
