Indonesian shares ended one percent lower on Tuesday, weighed down by selling in commodity-related stocks on lower oil prices, dealers said. The Jakarta Composite Index lost 12.76 points to 1,312.09 on thin trade. "There are fears that if oil continues to weaken, the main index could fall below the important level of 1,300 tomorrow," a trader told Dow Jones Newswires.
Oil prices fell in Asian trade Tuesday as investors continued to react to Opecs decision to maintain its current production levels. New Yorks main futures contract, light sweet crude for delivery in April, shed 23 cents to 47.12 dollars a barrel in the afternoon.
Coal miner Bumi Resources plunged 6.5 percent to 720 rupiah, while rival Bukit Asam shed 0.7 percent to 6,700 rupiah. Telecommunication company Telkom lost 2.3 percent to 6,450 rupiah. The rupiah closed at 11,975 to the dollar compared to 11,965 at last close.
