The people of Gaddap and Keamari Town are braving over 30 hours of load shedding as Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has failed to restore the electric supply to the respective areas till night on Wednesday. The Electric supply to city outskirts like Gaddap Town was disconnected as the areas "high tension pole" was damaged for the last two days, sources told Business Recorder.
"There was no light in the whole night on Tuesday and the situation has not changed despite repeated complains of the people. The life here has been disturbed due to the unending power outages," Kashif Khan, a resident of Keamari said. He said that after repeated complains they were told about a fault in the transmission line but nothing had done to restore the supply.
He said that the dysfunctional of the system has clearly showed the capacity and functionality of the Companys infrastructure, which would be dilapidated for times if the same happened in future. The problems-stricken Karachiites of other areas, sources said, were also facing at least a 10-hour power breakdown on Wednesday as the management of KESC has failed to bring changes in its generation capacity and maintain the smooth power supply.
The hours long power outages, sources said, had badly effected the citizens specially the business communities who caused millions of rupees as their factories and industries had remained for the whole day, they added. They said that the management was not only running its power generating units on lower capacity but also taking steps to insure the maintenance of companys infrastructure.
They said that while the oil prices has decreased by 100 dollar per barrel the management of the company was still not showing its willingness of using the oil to facilitate the people. According to the sources, citys power demand on Wednesday was recorded over 2100 MW but on the other to meet the demand the companys total supply was around 1700 MW with the shortage of 400 MW. However, when contacted to have the official comments over the power situation in the city, no officials were available.
