Pakistan has broadened the canvas of investigation into the November 26, 2008, Mumbai terrorist attacks after India provided reply to the 30 questions along with "evidences" including DNA, audio tapes, letters, pictures, CDs and footages of Close Circuit Cameras.
The investigation was not yet put off as investigators have changed their line of action particularly after Indian response, well-placed sources told Business Recorder here on Friday. "The investigators have found more evidences related to Mumbai terrorist attacks and in light of these evidences and material provided by India the canvas of the investigation has been broadened", they said.
They said that besides the FIA team, a group of senior police officers was busy in reviewing the evidences and details provided by Indian authorities in response to the Pakistani questions. The group has been asked to submit a report regarding this issue in one week, they said. They also said that the DNA samples of the terrorists involved in Mumbai terror attack were sent to Forensic Laboratory.
The challan against the masterminds caught by FIA, was not completed so far and the duration of physical remand has been expired, they said, adding that the perpetrators would be questioned if deemed necessary. They said that the investigation team is making all out efforts to make a comprehensive challan against the masterminds of the Mumbai terrorist plot so that they will not escape punishment. "The detained persons including Lakhvi will remain under investigation till completion of challan", they said.
Business Recorder learnt that FIA investigation team has arrested two more facilitators of the attacks namely Shahid Jamil and Riaz, who have been accused of extended logistic support to executors of Mumbai attack. Three more wanted persons in Mumbai attacks are still at large.
It is pertinent to note that FIA has decided to get special remand of the accused of the Mumbai terrorist attacks from Anti Terrorist Court, because the trial court had already given 30-day remand of the accused. Pakistan Government lodged a FIR No 01-2009 (the first FIR of the year in FIA Special Investigation Unit), against eight suspected terrorists on the basis of inquiry conducted by the Pakistani investigation team.
The FIR was lodged under sections 302, 109 and 34 of Pakistan Panel Code, sections 21, I-88, 7, 11, 21-C of Anti Terrorist Act and sections 11, 17 and 19 of Cyber-Crimes Ordnance (CCO).
