Small & Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) is working on development of Horticulture sector in the region focused on building market linkages among stakeholders. The authority had planned to work in co-ordination with other organisations involved in development of horticulture sector on building market linkages and introducing modern techniques of production and marketing.
This was demonstrated in a field training programme organised by Smeda and Pakistan Horticulture Development Export Board (PHDEB) for vegetable growers from Charsadda at Sirki. They were provided technical guidance on improving their products to meet demands of International market. Dr Ruidar Shah gave a detailed presentation on Integrated Pest Management that was focused on addressing real issues faced by the growers of the area.
Sarmad Hussein Khan from SMEDA explained the whole process of accessing local and International market that covered all post harvest techniques. He provided guidance on establishment of market linkages with the packaging industry and processing industry.
He urged the growers to get opportunity from skills of fellow growers and execute the activity to access International market through joint efforts. On this occasion the growers were also given different recommendation regarding improvement in their products. Arshad Ali from PHDEB explained export requirements to be followed by the growers to market vegetables internationally.-PR
