Pakistan has huge potential of exporting its precious and semi-precious stones after value addition. An official of the Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) said in a statement issued on Sunday. He said that the PGJDC organised the 5th Gem Bazar in Peshawar.
This is the fifth of its kind in Peshawar and shows the PGJDCs commitment and efforts to promote Pakistani Gemstone sector and to provide a lucrative opportunity and platform for those, interested in buying and selling gemstones and mineral specimen under one roof in a secured environment.
He also said that interested buyers would be exposed to quality products at competitive prices, which will add tangible value to their business endeavours. The official further pointed out that this Bazar have around 60 exhibitors displaying their gemstones and mineral specimen for the interested buyers.
He said that a variety of gemstones and mineral specimen were displayed under one roof, where interested buyers had the maximum exposure to a wide range of quality display.
The PGJDC official told that Pakistan has huge potential of exporting its precious and semi-precious stones after value addition and can earn millions of dollars in foreign exchange.
Unfortunate part is that we have been exporting our gemstones without value addition, thus are unable to fetch the right price for our exports, he said.
The official further stated that the PGJDC is working on several projects to impart the required skills and education to the stakeholders so that they could recognise the importance of exports after value addition.
In addition, the official said that Gem Bazaar has been organised in a professional manner to ensure high security and transparency in trading. It will further enhance the value chain productivity of the sector, enabling the miners to rise above unnecessary exploitation and deprivation from direct trading.
