The visit of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to the Raiwind residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader on Sunday has not only paved the way of fresh beginning in relations between the PPP and PML-N but has also given a ray of hope to the nation, which looked unhappy due to political turmoil.
Political pundits and analysts expressed divergent views vis-à-vis the outcome of Prime Minister Gilanis meeting with Nawaz Sharif. However, the general public had a sigh of relief when Nawaz categorically said that Asif Zardari and Yousuf Raza Gilani were their President and Prime Minister, respectively.
The PML-N leader, when asked about holding a long march towards governor house, said, "It is not our policy". Although, no significant announcement was made after the meeting, both Nawaz and Gilani seemed quite relaxed and satisfied.
After weeks of anxiety prior to March 16 long march and then a brief interlude of happy ending things had started to look murkier and gloomy once again. It was remarkable to see both Nawaz and Shahbaz looking confident and assured, sticking to their views.
Gilani was all smiles and said that he had come with an olive branch to carry a message of grand reconciliation from President Asif Ali Zardari, Federal Govt and his party colleagues. Nawaz, too, responded that he carried no personal grudge against Zardari and nor was pursuing any personal agenda.
With this major development, it appeared that issues stood settled between the two parties and now just actions would speak louder than words. It appears that the country is on way to turning a new leaf. Political analysts were attaching importance to the decision taken in the CEC of PML (Q) that the party would stay neutral in Punjab power game and would continue to play the role of opposition.
They also seemed to believe that once again a strong foundation has been laid by the PPP for reconciliation in real term. Nevertheless, it was a good message for the nation on the occasion of Pakistan Day.
