The Lahore Police smashed no less than 140 criminal gangs and arrested their 441 members while looted property worth 165.4 million rupees was also recovered during the current year. As many as 4,270 court absconders and proclaimed offenders were also nabbed during this period.
It was stated by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Haji Habib-ur-Rehman, while addressing a special meeting of senior police officers. He said that 1,298 cases had also been traced against the 441 accused including five cases of dacoity cum murder, 13 of dacoity, 578 of robbery, 307 of burglary and 389 other cases. Police recovered booty over worth Rs 165.4 million including Rs 4.4 million in cash, one-kg gold ornaments, 30 cars, 84 motorcycles, 668 cell phones, five pickups and rickshaws, two tractors and other precious items.
Meanwhile, the police also arrested 2,191 proclaimed offenders out of which 95 were involved in murder cases, 76 in attempted murder, 55 in dacoity, 109 in robbery, 224 in burglary and 1,612 in other miscellaneous cases during the said period.
During the drive against illegal weapons, 1,285 cases were registered and 1,288 accused were arrested, following recovery of five Klashnikovs, 59 rifles, 59 guns, 1,056 pistols and revolvers, nine carbines, three mousers, four bombs, 17 daggers and more than 7,000 bullets from their possession. The police also arrested 1,640 drug pushers and seized as much as eight-kg heroin, 347-kg hashish, 23-kg opium and 5,399 bottles of liquor.
