In a belated, if not bizarre, damage control effort, governor Punjab Salman Taseer visited Mansoora, Jamaat Islamis headquarters here on Sunday to apologise to Qazi Hussain Ahmed, the Ameer of JI, who was stopped to take part in the lawyers long march and sit in for restoration of deposed Judges on 16th March 2009 in Islamabad.
Peoples Party leaders Qasim Zia and Tanveer Ashraf Kaira were also with him on this occasion. The JI Naib Ameer Liaquat Baloch was also present on the occasion.
Later addressing a joint news conference, Qazi Hussain Ahmad demanded that the governors rule should immediately be lifted in Punjab and Assembly be allowed to elect its leader. He also demanded that all acts of Gen(retd) Pervez Musharraf after 3rd November 2007, PCO and proclamation of Emergency be declared illegal.
Governor Taseer said that he discussed the political situation in the province with JI leadership. He denied that any coercive steps were taken to stop the long march on 15/16th March 2009.
