Foreign Minister, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, has said that the terrorism can not be controlled only by means of force and this has been the policy of the Government of Pakistan since the day first to use different tactics to control terrorism, as terrorism has no boundary and it is not confined to Pakistan and Afghanistan only either.
He expressed these views during a press conference held on Sunday morning after having a meeting with CIA Director. CIA Director, Leon Panetta held separate meetings with the President and Prime minister and discussed the issues pertaining to security and extension of economic assistance to Pakistan.
The minister said that a clear policy is needed to devise to deal with terrorists and in this regard the US administration and its allied forces would soon draw a policy to enhance economic assistance for Pakistan to fight against terrorism effectively.
He said that he has planned to go Hague on 31st March to attend two-day Nato Conference that would kick off on April 3 in which he would present Pakistans stance towards counter-terrorism.
"Obama administration would announce its new policy for Pak-Afghanistan in the Nato conference and would take its ally into confidence over its new policy", he added. Moreover, the minister said that on April 17, he is scheduled to go on official visit to Tokyo with President Asif Zardari where
Donors Conference would be held for the financial aid of Pakistan. Talking about the US-Iran relationships, he said that Pakistan would support Irans changing stance towards US and agreed to negotiate with the US to discuss all outstanding issues.
Commenting on the issue of business of drug, which is considered one of the major causes to escalate tension in the region and boost terrorism, he said that Afghanistan and Central Asian States should come forward and play effective role to control narcotic business and poppy cultivation, as business of narcotics is the source of income for terrorists.
He further said that there are about 3 million refugees in Pakistan who want to go back to their homes and the same situation of refugees is facing by Iran too.
He said that when our government took the charge, country was going through worst economical crisis but we had accepted the challenge.
Talking about his upcoming visit to Moscow on March 25, Shah Mehmood said that he would go Moscow to attend the meeting of SEO, adding that the meeting would open new era of relationship with Russia after a long time, especially, in the economic sector.
Moreover, he said that during the meeting of SEO he would meet the foreign ministers of Central Asian States as well, which would help open new avenues of economic co-operation and new relationship with all regional states.
In another question about the answers of 30 questions sent by India regarding the Mumbai attacks, he said that foreign ministry has received the answers and now Interior ministry is reviewing it.
Talking about the political situation of the country, Qureshi said that PPP government is running all affairs smoothly with its allied in the center and regarding the situation in Punjab he assured that situation of Punjab would improve soon, however, he declined to say anything about the change of governor of Punjab.
