Pakistan Day was observed here as elsewhere in the country with profound national spirit and enthusiasm with people renewing the pledge to work with a sense of commitment for the cause of Pakistan and fulfilment of the dream of the Quaid. The day dawned with special prayers for the progress, prosperity, integrity and wellbeing of Pakistan.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah along with his cabinet members visited the Mazar of Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah where they laid floral wreath and offered Fateha. The day was marked by an impressive change of guard ceremony held at the Quaids Mazar.
The day was declared a public holiday and newspapers brought out special editions while radio and television broadcast and telecast programmes highlighting the significance of the day. On the occasion a number of political and religious organisations held meetings, seminars and symposia where speakers spoke on the significance of the day.
The days main highlight had been the presentation of civil awards to 24 dignitaries adorned with Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Presidents Award for Pride of Performance and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan at an impressive ceremony held at Governor House and, among others, also attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
People from various walks of life, including men, women and children, kept visiting the Mazar of Quaid-e-Azam throughout the day to pay homage to their benefactor who earned them a separate homeland where they could order their lives in accordance with the tenets of Islam. The administration had made fool proof security arrangements for the occasion with Police and Rangers patrolling the city roads.
