UN seeks direct contact with Soleckis captors

The United Nations on International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members Wednesday sought direct contact with the abductors of UNHCR official, John Solecki. John Solecki, UNHCRs head of office in Quetta, was abducted on February2 from the city and a group, Baloch United Liberation Front had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
The UNHCR said in a statement that direct contact with the abductors has been sought so that he could be released and properly treated at a hospital or clinic. The statement also said that the UN has no sustainable information on the wellbeing of Solecki and that the UN officials have no direct contact with John and his abductors. It further said the UN hears through media about his falling health. They dont even know whether he is alive.
The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon had called for immediate release of at least 19 UN staff members detained or missing, world-wide. The International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members was observed to draw attention of the international community to the risks faced throughout the world by the UN staff, peacekeepers and colleagues in the non-governmental community and the press.
