The Punjab government has directed to prepare a comprehensive development plan for the Mayo Hospital keeping in view the historical characteristics and architectural design of the old building. An amount of Rs 200 million is being spent for the purchase/ repair of medical equipment and urgent nature of maintenance of building.
Secretary Health Punjab, Anwar Ahmad Khan chaired a meeting of Special Committee constituted for the purchase of medical equipment and building repair/maintenance, here on Thursday.
Among others, the meeting was attended by vice-chancellor of KEMU Professor Dr Zafarullah, Additional Secretary Health Abdullah Khan Sunmbal, Chief Engineer Khalid Mehmood, Superintending Engineer Chaudhry Raiz Ahmad, Director Architect Punjab Zahid Javed Raja, Director PHA Mustafa Kamal and Medical Superintendent Dr Zahid Pervez.
Secretary Health directed that an advice should be sought from the C&W, Building Department and Nespak to retain the old building of the hospital and a comprehensive expansion/ development plan in the light of their recommendations should be prepared to coup with the present workload of the hospital.
He also directed that negotiations should be conducted with the legal inhabitants of the residential quarters of the hospital, which have already been declared dangerous so that these could be vacated. The meeting also took various decisions to meet the urgent nature requirements of the hospital.
It also gave approval for the purchase/repair of medical equipment including ventilators, CT Scan, X-ray, monitors and other instruments. An amount of Rs 100 million would be spent for this purpose. The meeting also gave approval for the installation of three new lifts and repair of 3 old ones. Three new tube-wells would also be set up for the provision of drinking water. For this purpose, Rs 100 million have been allocated.
