President Asif Ali Zardari signed the summary with regard to lifting of governor rule in Punjab, Aaj TV reported late Sunday night. Quoting the sources, the channel claimed that the president has signed the summary for lifting of governor rule in Punjab which was sent to him by the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
President Asif Ali Zardari while addressing the joint session of the parliament on Saturday announced that governor rule would be lifted in Punjab. According to the channel, the prime minister called on President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday and discussed with him the present political situation.
The TV channel further reported that the Punjab Assembly session might be called on 1st April. Our Reporter Jalil Hassan Akhtar from Lahore adds: President Asif Ali Zardari, while addressing Punjab Peoples Party parliamentary party members on Sunday in the Governor House here asked the PPP legislators in Punjab Assembly to get ready to sit on the opposition benches. However, he added that their option to sit in the government, to be set up in Punjab, would remain open if PML-N guaranteed them the formula of power sharing that stood previously. He said that in that case, their option to sit in the Punjab cabinet remained open.
The President, who arrived here to attend the parliamentary meeting, was joined by Party chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The President said that PPP wanted to move the things ahead under the Charter of Democracy (COD) and believed thoroughly in the process of democracy. Zardari said that he was against horse trading, and believed in true democratic trends, and added that PML-N should also do away with forward bloc. Talking about Governor rule in the province, he said that by Monday advice could be sent by the Prime Minister for its lifting. He said then by first of April holding of Punjab Assembly session was expected.
The President said they would respect the decision of courts on Sharif brothers disqualification, and added that the party had always stood for democratic norms, and end of dictatorship through political and democratic strength.
Talking of Benazir Bhutto, he said that she had sacrificed her life to end ugly designs of those who wanted to hurt the country. About PPP policies, he said that it always took decisions keeping in view future needs and prevalent circumstances and it always strived for strengthening of the country and promoted policies of reconciliation.
Bilawal said that he had learnt politics from her mother, and his father had promoted the politics of reconciliation and given many sacrifices for democracy. PPP leader Riaz, addressing newsmen, said that Governor rule would be done away with in a day or two, and the PPP members would sit on the opposition benches. He said that the party fully stood by President Asif Ali Zardari. A total of 103 members of the PPP Punjab MPAs attended the parliamentary meeting.
