Former coach and skipper Javed Miandad, who resigned from the office of Director General of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about a two month ago, has been asked to perform as the Director General of the board in the interest of game. Miandad had resigned from the office of the Director General of the PCB in January on account of differences with the board management over entrusting powers to him.
Miandad met PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt, who told former batting maestro that his resignation had not been accepted, hence, he should start performing his duties in the board to tackle manifold challenges being faced by cricket in Pakistan. Miandad told reporters that Pakistan cricket was facing manifold challenges. "The biggest one is to ensure that we get the support of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and other nations at a time when foreign teams are refusing to undertake tour of our country for security reasons," he added.
Miandad said: "Now is the time to work together for the betterment of Pakistan cricket." He said he was happy to be back, and vowed to help Pakistan cricket. He expressed gratitude to the PCB Chairman. Sources told Business Recorder that Miandad had settled all matters with the PCB Chairman and he had been given additional responsibility as Advisor to the PCB Chairman. An official of the PCB told this scribe that Miandad was expected to resume his official duties this week.
