Bill Gates regains the title of ‘world’s richest person’
Only yesterday a news astonished people when they heard that Microsoft’s co-founder Bill Gates’ title of the world’s richest man was stolen by Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos. Unfortunately for Bezos, Gates has now acquired the title back again.
On Thursday when the markets opened, Bezos had a net worth of $90.6 billion. Amazon’s stock rose 3% up to $1083.31 of which Bezos hold 17% and that led Forbes to entitle him as the world’s richest man driving his net worth to $92.3 billion as compared to Gates’ $90.8 billion, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
However, Bezos got to enjoy the title only for four hours when the markets closed on Thursday and Amazon’s stock declined to $1046 dropping Bezos’s net worth to $88.7 billion thus, by the days’ end, Bill Gates was the richest man again.
Gates has held the top position in the billionaire’s list since May 2013. Whereas, Bezos climbed from being the number 5 on the list last year to being number 2 now, reports USA Today.
Bezos started his journey 22 years ago by selling books from his garage and now he has travelled a long way by being the first man to overthrow Gates from his position even for a few hours.
Amazon has defined ‘online shopping’ for years now, and is not expected to stop anytime soon. Aiming to change the world rather than getting rich, Bezos maintains a website that lists few of his philanthropic investments at Bezos Expedition. Along with Amazon, he is also the founder of Blue Origin, an aerospace manufacturer and space flight services company. He also bought the renowned newspaper The Washington Post back in 2013. According to Bezos, these firms are “contributing to society and civilization in their own ways”.
