Federal Minister for Environment Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi directed the Planning Commission and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to submit clear-cut schedule for execution of Mega CNG Buses Project within one week.
The Minister said that the Ministry of Environment will also take-up the issue of formulation of the comprehensive policy for CNG with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources so that the mushroom growth of CNG stations may be brought under rules and regulations.
He was presiding over a meeting on expeditious implementation of Mega CNG Buses Project here on Tuesday. Secretary Environment Kamran Lashari, Addl. Secretary Imtiaz Inayat Ellahi, Managing Director ENERCON Faridullah Khan and representatives of the relevant Ministries attended the meeting.
He directed the Ministry to reconfirm the availability of CNG for the buses and PC to provide the timeline for submission of the revised PC-I to the CDWP, setting up high-pressure CNG stations and other relevant issues.
The Minister said that we want to make a clear decision in light of the response of the relevant ministries and do not want to create an embarrassing situation for the government at the later stages due to feared shortage of the fuel products for the buses.
The Government has a planned to run 8,000 CNG buses in 9 mega cities of the country. Deliberation in this regard is in advance stage and modalities for financing importing and running the buses as well as setting up high pressure are being worked out.-PR
