The heads of different government institutions showing anger over reinstatement of sacked employees did not participate in the meeting of Cabinet sub-committee held on March 27 to resolve the issue amicably, well placed sources revealed Wednesday.
A meeting of the sub-committee of Cabinet on reinstatement of sacked employees/workers was held on March 27, with Minister for Labour and Manpower Khursheed Shah in the chair to discuss early reinstatement of sacked employees but no head of the concerned departments attended the meeting.
Their resistance to absorb the sacked employees forced Senator Raza Rabbani to file a privilege motion in Senate to establish supremacy of the parliament by making them accountable, claimed sources.
They said that secretary finance, secretary labour and manpower, additional secretary establishment, additional secretary law, joint secretary and central labour advisor of ministry of labour and manpower were also present to assist the Committee in its deliberation.
The meeting was called to discuss the concern of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani regarding pace of reinstatement of sacked workers but due to absence of heads of different organisations it was postponed till April 6, sources revealed.
The heads of major government institutions, which resisted the reinstatement tooth and nail included Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), Ministry of Tourism, Pakistan Cotton Standards Institute, Ministry of Textile, Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Ministry of Ports and Shipping, Department of Plant Protection, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Federal Land Commission, Cabinet Division and Military Accountant General, Ministry of Defence.
The Cabinet Committee also showed displeasure on absence of the heads of above institutions as well as low level representation of various organisations. The Cabinet Committee instructed that such lapses should not be tolerated in future and the Secretary of the Division will ensure presence of heads whenever the parliament desires.
