National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in collaboration with the UN-Habitat, prepared `Housing-Early Recovery Assessment Report for earthquake affected areas of Balochistan. The quake had left 168 people dead,322 injured and a total of 14,626 houses were fully or partially damaged during the moderate intensity jolts that hit the northern parts of the province.
A NDMA spokesman said that the report is accompanied with practical proposals in connection with housing designs prepared by UN-Habitat, under provided guidance of the NDMA. "These guidelines contain six models each of brick and mud houses which are earthquake resistant. The cost of each model is within the reach of affected population as they have a wide range of choice," he said.
He added that the guidelines for housing designs have also been translated into Urdu and are being disseminated to the authorities in the affected areas to help rebuild earthquake resistant houses at affordable costs. Similarly; the report and guidelines have already been forwarded to provincial government to ensure mobilisation of the provincial and district authorities for sensitisation of affected people.
