Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Elite Police Force should be made fully prepared for eliminating terrorism, extremism and militancy and for this purpose, not only its qualitative training should be ensured but also equipped with modern weapons keeping in view the present situation.
He said that all possible resources would be provided to the elite force for curbing the heinous crimes, protection of life and property and creating sense of security among the people.
He said this while presiding over a high level meeting at Elite Police Training School Baidian here on Friday, in which various matters including provision of modern weapons and training to the elite police were reviewed in detail. Advisor Jehanzeb Burki, Inspector General Police, Commandants Training School Chung, Manawan, Punjab Constabulary besides concerned senior officers attended the meeting. Shahbaz said that the objective of establishment of elite police force was to eliminating the heinous crimes so that sense of security could be promoted among the people.
He directed that elite police force should only be used for this purpose and a formal legislation should be made in this regard. He further directed that the officials of elite police force deployed on various places should be called back and best training be provided to the officials deputed on the security of VIPs and the colour of their uniform should be separate.
He said that a performance audit system should be evolved on permanent basis for checking the performance of officials getting training from Elite Police Training School, which will not only help in improving their performance but short comings will also be removed.
He said that 500 assistant sub inspectors selected by the Punjab Public Service Commission should be provided training at Elite Training School after getting training from Sehala so that they could perform their duties efficiently for maintaining law & order, curbing crimes and protecting the people after getting training on modern lines.
He said that the screening of particulars of the officials selected for training at Elite Police training should be carried out. An effective and comprehensive strategy should be evolved for this purpose, he added.
Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that the period of posting in the Elite Police Force should be implemented strictly. He said that the weapons under use of the force should be in working condition He said that training is of great importance in enhancing the professional abilities and improving performance of the police. Therefore, training courses should be reviewed and these should be harmonised in accordance with the modern demands, he added. The Chief Minister said that the government will provide all resources for this purpose.
The Chief Minister said that Elite Police should remain alert for meeting any emergency situation and Punjab government will take all possible steps for provision of training, modern weapons, residential and other facilities to the force.
Taking serious notice of the delay of all development works at Elite Training School, he directed that the responsibility of completion of development projects should be assigned directly to commandant school instead of C&W Department.
He directed that the standard of development works should be ensured at all cost. He directed Secretary C&W to submit a detailed report to him within three days about the implementation of development projects at training school.
He appreciated the courage and bravery shown by Commandant Elite Training School Colonel Ikram during action against terrorists at Police Training Centre Manawan. Earlier, DIG Elite and Commandant informed the Chief Minister about the performance and training of the Elite Force and other matters in detail.
