Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that he made it clear to the American leadership that drone attacks on Pakistani soil are counter-productive and not serve the interests of any of the partners in war on terror.
"These attacks are counter-productive and President Obama has to review the policy to get better results in war on terror", Nawaz Sharif said while talking to reporters after his meeting with Richard Halbrooke, the special envoy of the US President for Pakistan and Afghanistan and Admiral Michael Mullen, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff on Tuesday.
In the luncheon meeting Nawaz Sharif discussed the rising terrorist and drone strikes with the visiting US officials. President PML-N Shahbaz Sharif was also present in the meeting.
He told reporters that he had discussed with the US official the situation arising out of the increasing US drone attacks on Pakistani soil and informed them of the rising anti-US sentiments in Pakistan.
He said that drone attacks were causing problems for Pakistan and if not stopped these would affect the war on terror. He said that he has informed Halbrooke and Mullen that the drone attacks may affect the relations between the two countries. "I have informed the US officials about law and order situation in Pakistan and also informed them of the affects of the attacks on war on terror," he added.
He said that he had informed the US officials that there would be no compromise on sovereignty and security of Pakistan and the interest of Pakistan will always remain supreme.
Nawaz Sharif called upon the government to adopt a clear stance on drone attacks and war on terror. "Government is not making any clear statement on this important issue which is causing threat to the country's sovereignty and is proving fatal for Pakistan", he said.
To a question, PML-N leader said that he had talked with American officials with complete clarity of opinion as a Pakistani. "We have to think as Pakistanis not as individuals or representatives of any political party and always keep the interest of Pakistan supreme", he added.
To a question about PML-N joining the federal government, Nawaz Sharif said that it was party's decision not of any individual and party will decide either to join the government in center or not. "There is no programme of joining the government in center as party is not ready to change its stance adopted at the time of separation from the federal government", he maintained. When asked about the inclusion of PPP in Punjab Government, he said that with restoration of Punjab Government the ministers of PPP have also been restored and it is PPP leadership which will decide their joining of Punjab government.
