The Parliamentary Committee on National Security has unanimously okayed its recommendations on national security in the light of 14-point resolution passed by the joint in camera session of the parliament.
Talking to reporters after the meeting along with other members of the committee here on Tuesday, Raza Rabbani said that we have finalised our recommendations that will be laid before both houses of parliament in their forthcoming sessions. Members will put their signatures on the draft of recommendations today (Wednesday), he added.
He said that the recommendations would be presented before the National Assembly on April 09 (Thursday) as it is unlikely to take up any agenda due to the death of MNA Mir Taj Muhammad Jamali.
"This is another display of unity of political parties keeping the national interests supreme setting aside their petty difference. The committee is united like the nation on priorities of country's stability and national security," he said.
He also acknowledged the contribution of all the political parties for adopting unanimous draft recommendations like the joint sitting of the parliament that also passed a unanimous resolution for combating terrorism and militancy posing grave threats to the sovereignty of the country. Maulana Fazlur Rehman, JUI-F Chief said that the committee has completed its job in the best national interest and hoped that the government would form national security policy giving weight to the recommendations of the committee.
"These recommendations are aimed at achieving internal stability, sovereignty, national independence and maintaining strong and stable relationship with the world at large," he remarked.
Sardar Mahtab Khan Abbasi of the PML-N termed the unanimous recommendations as another milestone achieved by the 17-member committee comprising different political parties but showing unity on issues of national importance. Professor Khursheed Ahmed of JI said that the historic recommendations would help in differentiating between military dictatorship and parliamentary democracy.
Former Justice Abdul Razzaq Thaheem of PML-F, Haider Abbas Rizvi (MQM), Abdul Rahim Mandoklhail (PkMAP) and Afrasiab Khattak (ANP) also spoke on the occasion and hailed the committee especially its chairman Raza Rabbani for helping in adoption of unanimous recommendations, giving weight to the viewpoint of all the political parties.
