Engineering Development Board (EDB) is trying to get short-term experts under senior volunteer programmes of international donor agencies for the engineering industry particularly for auto sector so that they could resolve their technical problems and promote quality and standards output in their product.
This was stated by CEO EDB Asad Elahi in the meeting of Safety. Quality and Environment Standards (SQES) committee of auto sector held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Sohail P. Ahmed, CEO, Thal Engineering.
The committee recommended that the system of vehicle fitness certificate should be extended to cars also and the private sector should be allowed to issue these certificates. The government agencies should select standards auto workshops for issuance of these certificates. It may be recalled that currently the system is applied to only public transport vehicles. The meeting took stock of the current situation prevailing in the provinces and recommended up-gradation of provincial vehicle examining departments by providing necessary equipment to them.
The meeting was briefed about the visit of the auto delegation to Japan recently in order to learn from the Japanese experience to assist in SME development with a focus on auto sector of Pakistan. The visit was described as beneficial as it provided an understanding of the role of Japanese Auto Manufacturers Association and Japanese government in development of the industry.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Punjab and Sindh Provincial Transport Authorities, OEM, PAMA, PAPAAM. PSQCA, Ministries of Science and Technology and Petroleum, National Productivity Organisation and Engineering Development Board.-PR
