US cocoa reversed higher in early trade on Thursday, shrugging off sharply lower quarterly grind data from Germany ahead of the holiday weekend, while arabica coffee futures inched higher, traders said. The market will be closed on Good Friday. It will reopen for regular hours on Monday.
Arabica coffee for May delivery rose 0.50 cent to $1.1870 per lb by 9:11 am EDT (1311 GMT). Narrow session range from $1.1825 to $1.1890 per lb. May volume at 2,696 lots. The rest ranged from 0.30 cent to 0.50 cent higher. Benchmark July cocoa up $38 at $2,601 per tonne by 9:12 am. July volume at 3,762 lots. The range from $2,544 to $2,613. One contract aside, the rest of the contracts were up from $2 to $42.
