Acting Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Rana Mushood here on Friday said that democracy would prevail in the country and assemblies would live-out their full parliamentary term of which one-year has elapsed from April 9,2008 to April 9,2009.
Giving analysis of performance of the Punjab Assembly during the day, he said that in total 12 sessions in one-year parliamentary life of the Assembly, it went into proceedings 94 times. He said that 371 members were elected in February 18,2008 elections out of which 297 were elected on open seats and 66 seats belonged to women and 8 seats belonged to minorities.
Speaking about bills undertaken in the Assembly, the Acting Speaker said in a year six bills were passed. The bills passed were pertaining to Revenue, Punjab Pension Fund, Nazria Pakistan Foundation, Malia, Provincial Motorcars and Law & order. Briefing on the history of the events in the year he said that assembly members and Speaker and Deputy Speaker took oath on April9-11, 2008.Confidence proceedings of the Chief Minister taken place on April 18,2009.
Talking of the questions presented in the House in the year, he added that notices were given on 2975 marked questions out of which 901 were answered by the departments. Talking about Call Attention Notices, out of total 188 notices received by the Assembly Secretariat 23 notices were presented in the House, he pointed.
The Acting Speaker dilating on Privileges Motions said out of 99 Privilege Motions, 21 were presented before Privileges Committees. On Adjournment Motions he said in the parliamentary year of the Assembly as out of 1243 Adjournment motions, the Assembly finally dealt 104.
Out of total resolutions presented in the House during the parliamentary first year, he said that 39 resolutions were accepted. The Acting Speaker said that severe action would be taken against the persons involved in lockout incident of the Assembly and report was awaited.
Regarding construction of the new assembly building he said this was due in 2007 and its funds were released in advance and now a committee had been formed on the possibility of any embezzlement in the construction of the Assembly.
The Punjab Assembly in its proceedings in the first parliamentary year introduced reciting of the Holly Quran and Naat-e-Rasul-e-Maqbool(PBUH). During Governor Rule period session of the Assembly was held on the stairs of the Assembly chaired by Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal. This event was unprecedented in the parliamentary history of the Country.
