The University of Northampton, UK and University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for collaboration to launch joint academic and training courses for the development of leather sector of Pakistan.
This was decided in a meeting between a two-member delegation from the University of Northampton, UK comprising Paul Evans and Dr Warren Weinsten and vice-chancellor UVAS, Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz on Friday. The Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and Professor Dr Muhammad Aleem were also present in the meeting.
They discussed areas of collaboration between the two universities. They also discussed initiation of a joint degree programme in leather technology in near future after making available all necessary facilities for the purpose. The two sides also agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for collaboration before launching the joint academic and training courses for the development of leather sector of Pakistan.
They also discussed sources of funding for the academic and lab facilities for their joint ventures. They said that the help of tanners would also be required for practical training of leather technology students, so they agreed to develop liaison with the best-selected tanneries of Pakistan.
The vice-chancellor told the delegates that the university believes in quality of education, research and training and is trying to bring its services at par with international standards. A quality enhancement cell has been set up to monitor and ensure quality in teaching, training and overall education degree programmes of the university, he added.
