A peasant, Muhammad Wali Dad Khaskheli about 70, who was on hunger strike outside Karachi Press Club passed away due to heart attack here Sunday. The deceased was a resident of Goth Essa Khaskheli, taluka Sanjhoro was on a hunger strike along with his family members for last few days against alleged forced eviction from land by a local landlord.
The peasant suffered heart problem early Sunday morning and was taken to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), where he breathed his last shortly after the noon while under treatment, Police sources said. The post mortem of Muhammad Wali Dad Khaskheli is still underway and statement of his heirs is yet to be recorded, Police said.
Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over the death of Muhammad Wali Dad Khaskheli and sympathised with the bereaved family. Sindh chief minister also announced Rs 100,000 for the family of the deceased. He said that the family would be provided justice and action will be taken against those who harassed them and forced them to leave the village.
He said a judicial probe will also be conducted and directed the Sindh Home Secretary to present his report after inquiry into the incident. He directed for taking the family to their village under security and make arrangements for the burial of the deceased.
Meanwhile, Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan also expressed deep grief over the death of a member of a family, which was on a hunger strike outside Karachi Press Club. He said the situation in which the incident took place manifests the oppression by feudal system in the country. The Sindh Governor said the affected family would be provided justice at every cost.
