A shutter-down strike called by political and nationalist groups to condemn the murder of Bloch leaders paralysed life in Balochistan on Sunday. Over 10 people have been killed in Balochistan over the past four days in violence over the killing of three leaders of nationalist groups.
The violence broke out on Thursday after mutilated bodies of the chief of Baloch Nationalist Movement (BNM), Ghulam Muhammad Baloch, leader of Baloch Republican Party, Sher Muhamamd Bugti and BNM leader Lala Munir were found. A police man was killed and three people, including two policemen, were injured on Sunday in different incidents of violence. A police man was killed in Dera Murad Jamli district when gunmen opened fire on a police station.
There was shutter down strike in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan and major cities - Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur and Hub. Angry protestors in these cities attacked government buildings. The police fired in the air and used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. In Quetta, the protestors torched two banks, a post office, two tractors and a motor-bike in the agriculture office. In Turbat, the demonstrators burnt a dates-packing factory and a hostel of model school. The police arrested several demonstrators but the angry mob surrounded the police station and get freed the detainees.
In the port city of Gwadar, the demonstrators ransacked and burnt several shops and the paramilitary force and police fired in the air and used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. Work on the Gwadar port has also been stopped for four days, officials said. Protestors also blocked the main highway between Quetta and Karachi at several places, transporters said.
