Indonesias coffee exports from the main coffee-growing area of Sumatra dropped 30.3 percent in the first three months of 2009 to 37,160.01 tonnes, trade data showed on Monday. In March alone, Sumatran coffee beans exports fell 21 percent from a year ago to 12,007.25 tonnes.
Sumatra bean prices, which normally track London futures, have lost more than a third of their value from a peak of 25,750 rupiah per kg reach on March last year, as the global crisis cuts demand. Three provinces in the southern Sumatra are Indonesias main coffee-growing areas, accounting for three-quarters of the countrys coffee bean output.
