KARACHI: The newly elected Prime Minister‚ Shahid Khaqan Abbasi took oath as the 18^th prime minister of Pakistan at a simple but dignified ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday.

President Mamnon Hussain administered oath to new Prime Minister.

Earlier‚ the National Assembly has elected former oil minister of PML-N Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as Leader of the House. He secured 221 out of 339 votes.

While his opponents Naveed Qamar of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians bagged 47 votes and Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed of Awami Muslim League chief secured 33 votes, and four other MNAs voted for Jamat-e-Islami’s Sahibzada Tariqullah during the ballot.
